Every month, Details magazine has a one-page section called Know + Tell that is -- as they describe it -- “numbers, nomenclature, and news for the conspicuously clued-in.”

There is always some interesting tidbits in there, and included in this month's was this -

460 terabytes = Storage capacity of Wal-Mart's secret data center on the Arkansas-Missouri border, where the company keeps information about its customers

230 terabytes = the amount of information on the Internet

...

And on the lighter side -

Ladle

v. To spoon, when one of the participants is overweight

Provenance: unknown

Usage: "Why am I a chubby-chaser? Well, for one thing, being ladled is comforting."

After six months of planning and organizing, we finally kicked off the Pacific Northwest Color Management User Group - Seattle a couple of weeks ago. Branching off from a group of the same name in Portland, we had quite a turnout at our first event, held at the downtown REI flagship.

The website is the Portland group's and can be found here - feel free to browse the site. There you will find a bunch of color management resources, contact info and the membership form in case you're interested in signing up for membership. We may very well get our own site up but for now are gracious for the support from the folks in Portland.

I get the GD USA magazine -- a free subscription to anyone who claims to be a graphic designer -- and last month they featured a really interesting article found here online that highlighted color trends and forecasts.

The prediction of color trends is a long-standing black art that is both fascinating and intriguing. Actually, color has been forecasted by the Color Association since at least 1915 (predictions are issued two years in advance in four specific categories -- Men's, Women's, Youth and Interiors/Environmental). Social and political events, in particular, that influence how color relationships are predicted are very interesting. For instance -- the World Cup influenced fashion color trends for 2006.

Of course, Pantone has an important role -- and has for over 40 years -- in both communicating color (duh) as well as predicting it. One of the less-than-well-known color guides (as opposed to, say, the Process-To-Coated fan deck or similar printing guides) is the fashion/home guide. If it weren't for the 130 clams, I'd consider buying one as I look into colors to paint my home.

Anyways, color and how it influences us is amazing and the articles featured on the GD site are pretty interesting.

The scroll wheel on my Apple Mighty Mouse ceased being able to scroll up - it scrolls down, just not up. After a quick email shot off to my IS engineer, I find out he -- and a number of others -- have been experiencing the same problem.

Fortunately -- we were able to find this helpful video online presented by none other than Steve Jobs!

Taken from Radiohead's blog because it, well, made me laugh --

on the shitlist

this'll make you laugh.

i was told yesterday that one of the daughters of the president came to NY show 2.
we were playing THe Tourist at the end of the show.. and yyes we did wander what the shuffling manhandling fighting was in the distance of the audience.
turns out it was her 6 bodyguards clearing the way for the first daughters exit. and some pour soul objected at being manhandled by the secret service. i think i would have to.

infact if i had known all this my objections would have been more forthright and extensive...if you know what i mean. which is perhaps why our lot chose not to tell me who was in the building before we went on. probably a good idea.

hmm
i dont know if we should be

A. honoured
B. amused
C. bemused
D. ask if she had a valid ticket
E. object belatedly on moral grounds
F. ask again if she had a ticket and question whether this really what our gigs are about
G. dont blame the daughter for the father
H. shutup and smile

answers on a postcard

bonaroo today woo hoo

Came across this pic on the Radiohead blog DEAD AIR SPACE -

Not sure what the hell the cashier can do about it -- but I do feel better there's at least someone "in the know."
